Let the Happy Dancing Begin!!
My son's glasses have been MIA for the last couple of weeks - it was starting to feel like months, the way he was moping around the house. You see, his vision is not bad enough that he needs to wear them all the time - just when he's reading or DRIVING.
(To a 16-year-old being with their permit,
driving = breathing or eating)
So you can imagine what life has been like around my house lately. Anyway, he called me a short time ago sounding really quite happy to have located them. Now he is trying to think of places we need to go tonight - anywhere - just so he can get behind the wheel again.

The Package Was Delivered....
So now I can share the photos of the mega card I made for my nephew.
(overall length = 23-1/2")
Samantha (mother of Ryan) also has an August birthday - her card was normal size, but according to my husband, it the best card I've made yet.

Happy Anniversary to Us....
In case you are wondering, I did not make both of them - just the manly deer one for my sweet hubby. He conspired with my buddy Alison and got her to make the adorable "I Love You" card. But the way the card got from her to him to me was truly ingenious. (which really isn't too amazing since Alison's hubby - Adam - is a card carrying genius) ANYWAY, a couple of weekends ago, a bunch of us women of craft gathered at Shannon's house to enjoy several hours of crafting. Each of us brought our own projects to work on (one of mine was the Noble Deer card shown above - the other was the Ryan's fabulous card - which I should be posting tomorrow - it's really cute and I hope he likes it - I'm worried that maybe it will be "too young" for him, but I did remember to send him something from Star Wars, so maybe he will cut me some slack)....
Sorry, wandered off topic...
ANYWAY, Alison tells me that Adam had asked her to give me some modeling info to give to Mike. And she hands me a sealed envelop complete with a sticky note with Adam's request written on it. She makes a big fuss about how he is making us be his couriers now (in a "how dare he" kind of tone). I (being the possibly most gullible person I know) think nothing of it. Later that day, I gave it to Mike and recount the whole thing that Alison told me. He opens the envelop (being very careful not to let me see the contents), says "cool" as he looks inside and quickly changes the subject. Now, I'm suspicious and I'm pretty sure I've delivered my own anniversary card. Of course, I got to wait nine days to find out for sure.

My Preoccupation Grows...
...with the book "House of Wolves".
A couple of posts ago I raved about getting an advanced copy of the book. Well, I read it rather quickly, because the author's style lends itself to a quick and enjoyable read plus I've been known to read freakishly fast - according to my husband. Anyway, the other day, I noticed on Facebook that one of the author's newest friends was August Adams - the main character in the book. "Brilliant marketing idea", I think to myself and immediately sent off a friend request to the fictional being - - yeah, I know, slightly deranged behavior on my part, but hey, I plead "mental-pause". Anyway, I get notification that my request has been granted and I see in the status line that August has a blog at http://augustadams.wordpress.com/. Of course I have to go check it out. I find out his birthday is the same as my sisters....(note to self: must mail her birthday card tomorrow, seeing as her birthday was LAST Wednesday).
I did call her to wish her a "Happy Birthday" even though she says she stopped counting them. I had to confess that her card was going to be late (like she didn't already know that all by herself). I told her that both her and my nephew's cards would get there before the end of the month AND that I wouldn't post pictures here on my blog until they got a chance to see them first.
I've rationalized that a sneak peek inside Ryan's card wouldn't be giving the whole thing away... so feast your eyes on this:
There was no promises made about sharing photos of the custom wrapping paper for the kid's gifty (hope he likes what's inside).
Once I know they have received their belated greetings, I will post more pics. Until then....

Birthday Party
Last week my son and I got to go to a "sweet sixteen" birthday party. I went a little "snap happy" as Josh calls it and took 92 pictures. Sounds like a ton, but in reality, not all of them are - how you say - "works of art". I tinkered with some of them and was able to salvage the pics, but still, some of them were just too yucky to share. Here are some of my favorites:
Ashley the "other" photographer
a sweet mommy & daughter moment
"see my muscles?"
"say hello to my little friend"
"what's that smell?"
"see my muscles?"
"what's that smell?"

My First Fun Shop
I've been a "demonstrator" for The Angel Company for about a year. I joined to support my rubber stamping habit and really wasn't looking to generate income from the endeavor, but opportunity came knocking on my door and I answered. This evening I cased a design from the current catalog and got all the supplies ready to go for one of the two cards I plan to demonstrate next Saturday.
I have make sure I use stamp sets and designer papers which are still available. I used my beloved Scor-pal to give the card stock some texture and used some of the funky Rustic Chic designer paper that I love so much. One of the coolest things about the TAC stamps is that you use clear acrylic blocks to stamp, so you can see where your image is going to go. Translation: your can cut your shapes and then easily stamp on them. (that's what I did on the oval piece above.)
I'm really starting to get excited about doing the demonstration - can you tell?
**LATER**
Okay, so here is the second quick & easy card I'm going to show. A cute little buggy colored with Prismacolor pencils (I just LOVE to color!)

More Birthday Cards

OMG!
Okay, so yesterday, I go zooming off to work (running just a tad later than I wanted to be) and I noticed that we had a plastic grocery bag hanging from our mailbox - which is un-strategically located three houses down with a bunch of others (that's just how we roll out here in the wilds of Galway). ANYWAY, I whip out my new "Captain Kirk phone" and hit the speed dial for my home phone. Dear sweet hubby must have been outside and didn't pick up - so I leave a message to tell him the news - there was a package too big for our mailbox hanging there patiently waiting for us to collect it. I continue on to work not giving it another thought - after all, it was probably just one of the models that Mike won off of eBay
Fast forward to 10:30 pm. I'm moments away from home and think to myself - "pull over and check the mail". As I approach, I see the bag forlornly still hanging from our box. I retrieve it along with various "love letters" from our creditors and bits of junk mail. I pull into the driveway and start gathering my stuff. On the porch is another box - "how many models does one man need?" I wonder and then realize I really have no room to get irritated by the behavior because I'm the same way with my crafting supplies - so I quickly nip that emotion in the bud.
I take my stuff upstairs to find my sweetie on the computer messing with photos the models he has meticulously constructed (they are really quite impressive and I've been encouraging him to start up a Facebook or blog to share his creations with anyone who would care to enjoy the fruits of his hobby - he just smiles and continues to explain how he customized his Army jeep to make it more realistic). ANYWAY, I hand over the packages and start unloading my other stuff I schlepped upstairs. I am mindlessly sharing the events of my day as he practically chews open the first box. "Cool" he says "they are here already". He had won an eBay auction for four sets of model wheels for the price of what one set sells for in the stores. He starts on the grocery bag and finds that it's not one, not two, but three bags protecting the one from the mail box. When he finally gets to the actual box he says, "Honey, this one is for you." I see the Nashville return address and the name "Matt Bronleewe" and I think I let out a little scream of delight. My dear sweet husband is perplexed (he has no idea who this guy is) and a little alarmed as I started searching the room for a sharp object to liberate the treasure that I am certain lays inside. He handed me his Exacto knife and gently (but firmly) asked that I return it after I sliced through the tape and before I stabbed myself when trying to open the box.
I lifted the top to see the largest sticker I've seen in a long time - it is the logo of a Facebook group which Matt started - "The Unsecret Society". Lovingly wrapped in newsprint I find a copy of Matt's new book "House of Wolves" (signed), an envelope with signed book plates and bookmarks to promote the book, and a letter entitled "Operation: Wolfpack" explaining my "very unsecret mission". By now, I find myself laughing maniacally - and my husband is becoming more alarmed. I explain this is the guy who wrote "Illuminated" (the book I devoured in ten hours) and that this is the sequel. This seems to ease his mind - but now he has noticed that I am hugging the book as I am explaining and I can tell he wants to ask "Did you take your pills today?"

Sadly, I have not started reading this new edition to my library - Project Runway's second showing was about to start and by the time it was over - I was way too tired to keep my eyes open. So I will just need to carry it with me today with the hopes of a few stolen moments to discover August Adam's newest adventure.

Long Time No Blog...
Wow! How time flies when your schedule is jam-packed! Not alot of paper crafting has been going on and I am starting to feel the need to commune with my Scor-pal soon ... VERY soon!
Last week was a whirlwind of activity with my church's adventure camp. I worked in the craft tent and helped the kids put together their projects. It was a blast! Sorry, didn't have a chance to take any pictures to share with you, but I made a ton a memories which will keep me smiling for quite some time.
This week, I joined a Zumba class. What, you don't know what Zumba is??? Welll take a look at this...
Long ago (in college), in a state on the other side of the country - I used to do a lot of salsa-type dancing. I made sure to stay very low impact during my first session of exercise, but after one short hour, I must confess that I am hooked! Monday night has become "Momma's Zumba Night".
